How to compare two items

A comparison starts with value, but it should not end there. The community wiki describes trading value through four things: base value, demand, rarity and stability. In practice I look at three:

  1. Value. The higher number is worth more on paper. If the gap is small, the items are close to an even swap.
  2. Demand. How easy it is to find a buyer. Between two items of similar value, take the one that sells faster.
  3. Stability. An item that does not swing every week is safer to hold. New event items are the least stable of all.

If the values are close, demand and stability decide. If one value is much higher, the bigger item wins unless it has no buyers.

Example pairs

Evergun or Evergreen. A gun against a knife, both from Christmas 2023. 3,440 against 2,700. Knives and guns use the same scale, so the type does not matter, only the numbers and the demand.

Harvester or Gingerscope. Both are ancient guns, and the purple colour makes them look alike. 250 against 14,380. Same colour, very different numbers: rarity colour tells you nothing here.

Alienbeam or Turkey. Both are godly knives with values very close to each other (1,810 and 1,850). Then demand and stability decide, so read the item pages. A bundle knife like Turkey was sold for Robux, while Alienbeam came from a box, and they may behave differently.

Mortal or Immortal. The knife and the gun from the same bundle. They launched at the same price, so check today's numbers (158 and 158) and decide which you prefer to play with.

Seer or Chroma Seer. A craftable pair. 3 against 26.5: the chroma is worth more, but it is one outcome of a random craft that eats ten Seers, so you cannot count on getting it.

Traps when comparing

Do not compare names, compare entries. Two items called Latte or Aurora with different years are different items. A pile of small items does not always equal one big one: the more pieces you add, the harder it is to resell them. Last, the list tells you what is fair, not what the other player will accept.

Questions players ask

Is the item with higher demand always better?

Not always. High demand sells fast but may cost more. Use it as a tie-breaker between two similar values.

Can a knife be worth the same as a gun?

Yes. Knives and guns share the same scale.

Why is a rarer item cheaper?

Rarity and value are different things. A rare item that few people want, like many vintage weapons, can be cheap.

Where can I compare more than two items?

In the trade calculator, where you can put several items on each side.
